Fashion | festival vibe...

The most comfy shorts ever teamed with some tassles, comfy shiny shoes and a half up do with a flower. The best clothing collaboration for a festival. Comfy enough to dance around in and wear all day, yet pretty enough to still look girly and in fashion. This outfit would also work with some socks, wellies and a rain mac, because lets face it, the weather is bound to be rainy!

And the best part is the whole outfit is super cheap, coming in at under £40! Minus the Ray Bans of course.

May Look Fantastic Beauty Box

So if you've been following my blog you'll know that Look Fantastic were kind enough to give me a 12-month subscription to their beauty box (here) so every month I will be doing an unboxing video...





and full review on each of the products...




I have never been one for serums. I don't really believe there are any miracle creams out there but it was interesting to give this one a go. It definitely makes your face super soft and I can see why the product is so expensive. Would I go out and buy it? Certainly not on my pay cheque!




This product is pretty damn amazing. It would be great for those that travel a lot because it can be used on face, body and hair! I have never seen a product like it. It smells nice and it gives a lovely subtle shimmer. It is a bit awkward to use though if you wanted to do your whole body, I felt like I was wasting some of the product by pouring it on myself. I did put a tiny bit of this product on the ends of my hair and it just looked greasy but I will give this a better attempt and let you all know! I do love the product for perhaps just your legs to give a nice shimmer.




So I love tanning products - I mean what feels sexier than having a golden glow; see my post on how to fake tan here. I am so used to moose based self tans that I was a little unsure on this lotion type but I went ahead... first I noted that it was harder to sort of spread than a moose - it was very thick - but it did go on dark so you could see where you had applied the product which is always handy. I got dressed and went to bed for the tan to develop over 9 hours. I woke up, had my shower and it revealed a beautiful natural tan... however my bed sheets were not so beautiful! I was gutted. I think I'll stick to my St Moriz moose after that disaster. Although the tan itself was good and I would be willing to try the moose product, in case it is only the lotion types that transfer onto clothes/sheets.




What girl doesn't love a hair treatment. I tried this out and I'm still not certain... straight after using this products and drying my hair, it seemed so dry and more damaged then when I went in the shower but after a while it did get soft... I'm not sure how or if this is how the product is meant to work but I will definitely continue to use it and see if over a long period of time it makes a difference. The product does smell soooo good though.



I love false eyelashes and these were perfectly natural. However, I did still have to add my own glue to them anyway so I wouldn't specifically go out for pre-glued lashes. But Eylure are a great brand although as I said in the video, in my opinion a little on the expensive side. I get my lashes from Elf for $1 in America and you just can't beat it.




This cleansing balm is something totally new for me. It smells rather odd and is not the easiest to apply but I do feel like it is doing something and it is similar to products that I have seen when getting a facial. I will continue to use this product and see if using it for a while makes a difference to my skin. Although, luckily I have little issues with my skin, I look after it and I also don't wear makeup frequently so perhaps that's why I haven't noticed a huge difference yet.

HOW TO: Save Money

Today's post is a few quick tips on saving money.

The main key to saving is simple.


Just put 1/3 (or whatever works for you) straight into your savings on pay day. Job done.

I recommend having an ISA for this but go and speak to your bank about that one.

Currently, I save 1/2 my pay because I am trying to save for a house and a trip to Australia but really it depends on how much you earn. Although, even when I was only doing weekend work back at school I did still save a set amount every pay day.

I think if you know exactly how much you are putting into your savings each month and keep it at the same figure it is so much easier - just imagine getting your pay without it, as you would do with any other bills you have to pay.


Additionally, if you have something with a deadline to save for and do find it difficult to save then you could try working out how much you need to save each month to reach your end goal.

I mean, if you need £1,000 by the end of the year - that's 8 months pay - 1,000 / 8 is 125 so you would only need to save £125 per month to reach your target.


A few extra tips

Get a piggy bank and put all your loose change into it or just £1 or £2 coins or however you want to do it - it soon adds up and is a great treat at the end!

Always order the points cards - this is a great way to earn money while you spend money. With nectar cards you can even earn money while you shop online in LOADS of stores, including eBay.

For more immediate money; try selling some old items on eBay or Gumtree or even do a bootsale.

Day 122 - fitness journey: portions

Hi everyone,

Welcome to another fitness journey post.

I know they are not as frequent as other posts but I do try to post recipes when I can and if you follow me on instagram and twitter you will see lots of meal ideas there too

Veggy burger, butternut squash cubes, spinach, peas and broccoli.
 
Peanut butter, 0% fat Greek yoghurt, xylitol and dark chocolate chips.
 
Quinoa chicken parmesan with broccoli and peas.

I thought this post was super important because a lot of people don't get nutrition right when trying to be truly healthy (and fit).

Many people go on diets and calorie count or just cut out eating so much but this is not the way to create a long healthy lifestyle.

In fact what you need to be doing is almost the complete opposite.

I am still well and truly learning on this fitness journey but my biggest hurdle has definitely been food and making sure I am eating enough of the right things (which I still have yet to master). Lauren Gleisberg has been a huge help so go check her out.

Basically, if you can eat four/five meals a day this is most ideal - I have three main meals and two snack type meals usually because that just works better for me.

Each meal should be as balanced as possible; a portion of healthy carb, a portion of healthy fat, a portion of protein, a portion of veg and an extra "treat".

If my breakfast includes everything except veg (as it usually does) then my first snack is cucumber sticks or similar.

Porridge oats mixed with unsweetened almond milk and water with yoghurt, flaxseed, honey and cinnamon with a lemon green tea = carb, protein, fat, extra & spice (plus healthy drinks).

The sort of portion sizes for the average woman is ;

protein - palm size
carb - one fist
fat - two fingers
veg - one fist or more
extra - thumb size

Banana and dark chocolate muffin with 0% maple syrup.

On gym days, I try to make sure I have more carbs and when it's a non-gym day I try to make sure to have minimal carbs for my last meal of the day. Although this is easier said than done when having dinner with others.

Baked sweet potato with Quorn mince chilli (the mince, peppers, chopped tomatoes, kidney beans), feta and spinach.

I am still 100% working on my evenings as this is the hardest part of the day for me.

Our fat burning hormones take about 8 to 12 hours after the last meal to kick in so on some nights I try to leave 12 hours between dinner and breakfast and then on gym nights I try to refuel with healthy carbs and protein. However, I often don't get home from the gym until 10pm and aren't really that hungry. This is definitely my biggest hurdle - aside from trying to stay away from the constant supply of biscuits at work and at home.

Fashion | knee high...

Finally a post on these beautiful cleated sole knee high boots from Pretty Little Thing. This outfit works for many different occasions. The boots work with any dress, playsuit, skirt or shorts and are surprisingly comfy. Perfect for this English weather; keeping our legs warm but letting us wear dresses.

The waterfall coat is a huge hit at the moment being in true Kim Kardashian style; oversize and neutral. The best part is this coat is literally like a blanket and is surprisingly lightweight.

RECIPE: Protein oat carrot cookies

As most of my recipes are, this one is pretty flexible, but I am sharing with you my personal favourite oatmeal carrot cookie. 



Makes: 14 cookies
Total time: 1 hour

Ingredients
1 cup of oats
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup vanilla protein powder (unflavoured powder would probably work too - let me know if you would like a post on what protein powders are best to buy)
1 & 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 & 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tbsp. coconut oil (melted and cooled slightly)
1 egg
1 grated carrot
1/2 cup maple syrup (I recommend myprotein 0% maple syrup - here)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
A tiny pinch of salt
 

Method

Grate your carrot.

In a bowl, whisk together the oats, flour, protein powder, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt (the dry ingredients).

Melt the coconut oil and let cool slightly.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the coconut oil, egg, and vanilla. Then stir in the maple syrup until thoroughly incorporated.

Add in the flour mixture, stirring just until incorporated.

Then fold in the carrots.

Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 160°C, and line a baking tray with baking paper.

Drop the cookie dough into about 14 scoops on the baking sheet and flatten slightly (they don't really rise so don't flatten too much).

Bake for 12-15 minutes; then let cool.

April Look Fantastic Beauty Box

So if you've been following my blog you'll know that Look Fantastic were kind enough to give me a 12-month subscription to their beauty box (here) so every month I will be doing an unboxing video...



The video may be a bit of a fail with a couple of the products missing (I'm sorry) but here is my full review of all the products that were in Aprils beautybox...




So the diet tablets, as you can tell by my face, I wasn't too keen on and I have actually decided not to take. I thought I might give it a go for you guys so I could review them but if you follow the fitness side of my blog you'll know they are not my thing. Perhaps I'll keep it for when I do my 1K follower giveaway and add it to the parcel one of you lovely readers will receive and you can chose to try them out or just throw them out.



The soap I have only used once so far because I don't really use soap; I'm pretty lazy and just use the bottles that you can actually hang up in the shower or those pump bottles by the sinks... The soap was nice when I did use it in the shower but I do moisurise after a shower anyway so I couldn't tell you if the soap actually made all the difference... the least helpful review ever.



I have heard so many great things about this mouth wash product, it is quite expensive, but it does taste nice and isn't too strong or painful as some mouth washes can be. I am going to try and remember to take it to work to use after lunch, especially if I have any surveys or meetings in the afternoon; I think it will be a useful product!



I absolutely love bedhead products and was quite surprised to see such a popular brand featured in the box, which was great. It smelt amazing... However, styling gel is not really my thing - it would be great if you have short hair though I think. I have given this product to my boyfriend and he loves it.



This wash smells sooo nice, I would actually recommend it if you're looking for a nice body wash - I think I might transfer it into a pump style bottle and use it as a hand wash in the guest cloakroom instead (the link below is actually the pump style as on Look Fantastic's website!). As a general body wash, I am not overly fussy about which I use, I usually go for the cheapest as I go through them like crazy so if I did buy this product for those purposes I would probably keep it in my travel bag for special occasion use only.



This pencil looks great on paper; its all natural organic ingredients which is great for even really sensitive skin. However, I don't have sensitive skin anyway and I found that it smudged really easily. I don't think it had much chance after last month's Lord and Berry pencil!
